On November 3rd, Step It Up is organizing global warming rallies in a number of cities throughout the United States. The organization's primary goal is to get Congress to agree to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. The November campaign also aims for a moratorium on the construction of coal burning power plants.

For those of you who would like a rundown every month of what happened in the world of socially responsible investing and corporate social responsibility, one place to go is The Motley Fool.  Its column "Stocks with Scruples" by S.J. Caplan comes out once a month (usually in the middle of the month) and provides its readers with all of the necessary nuggets to know what happened in the past month in the field.  Though not in depth, the coverage is a great place to keep up-to-date as well as a perfect jumping off point for further research. Here are some tidbits from this month:

" Coca-Cola
(NYSE: KO) pledged to replace the water it uses in its beverages and their production, and launched a multiyear partnership with the World Wildlife Foundation to conserve and protect freshwater resources.

Calvert launched the Calvert Global Alternative Energy Fund (FUND: CGAEX). It invests in companies that are alternative energy market leaders, as well as those building a significant presence in the sector.

BHP Billiton (NYSE: BHP) outlined its new approach to climate change, and stressed that accelerated action was necessary to stabilize greenhouse gas emissions."
